Spirit of the Tiger must Live On

We lost a Tiger, in fact we have lost 3 true Malaysian patriots. The ones who make us proud and able to hold our heads high among the nations. So soon after our loss of Irene Fernandez, mother activist and advocate of human, migrant workers, and refugee rights, on 31st March, the Rakyat (People) again mourn the death of our, “Tiger of Jelutong”, an Opposition leader of outstanding character, integrity and honesty – Karpal Singh. He was a thorn in the side of the Barisan Nasional government. His keen intellect, tenacity for justice and fearless outspokenness brought him in conflict many times with the powers that be. Irene and Karpal had suffering in common. Having to withstand the pressure of repressive measures imposed by an establishment that will not acknowledge the truth and the injustice of its policies and politics.

Among these warriors is one, lesser known in comparison, yet still a participant in the struggle for democracy, and justice ; who recognized their lack – Bernard Khoo, an advocate and supporter of  “Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia” ( I, A child of Malaysian Race) succumbed to cancer. A middle-aged blogger opposed to division and ethnic discrimination in Malaysian society.

In front of these portraits of the patriots, we stand in silent mourning. When our tears dry, let them inspire us, the masses, the ordinary people of this nation. Then, the Spirit of the Tiger will raise its head with a roar, which echo will reverberate over the mountains, rivers and seas of this rich land. Our Home – Malaysia.
